Seeing the Brain…With Diapers (What?!)

Call me a nerd, but this is fascinating!

Image: Colorful digital image of the human brain, sort of looks like the brain is painted.
SOURCE: NOVA
As the video pointed out, there are many other ways of looking into the human brain. This one may move us into new ways of understanding frightening conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Imagine how this discovery might help us study things on a neuron by neuron level.
Very often these images are beautiful (not to mention fun to interact with). On the NOVA site they have a rather interesting interactive where you can play around with many of these different imaging types! You can try that out here.
Maybe, like me, you might consider learning a little more about the human brain and how it works a s a new hobby!
Perhaps what I love most about our video today and the world of neuroscience, is how scientists are expanding possibilities.

Improvement of Power System Transient Stability using Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) | IJSTE JOURNAL Vol 3, Iss 1

Improvement of Power System Transient Stability using Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC)

This paper describes improvement of power transfer capability in IEEE 4 bus 2 machine system using Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC).It is known that series controller is always contributing a better performance for power transfer capability through transmission line. Here Static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) has been used as a switching converter type series compensation. Power oscillation damping (POD) has been incorporated as a controller to damp out the oscillation. Simulation result shows after installing SSSC between bus no. 1 & 2, the power flow has been improved. The work has simulated in MATLAB Simulink 2010 and output has been compared with and without Static synchronous series compensator (SSSC).

An Adaptive method for Image Restoration: Image De nosing , De Blurring and Super Resolution using Sparse Representation | IJSTE JOURNAL VOL 3, ISS 2

An Adaptive method for Image Restoration: Image DE nosing, DE Blurring and Super Resolution using Sparse Representation

Noise suppression from image is a still a big challenging problem for researchers. Image may be corrupted during the transmission or storage time, so removing the noise from the processed image and should preserve the important information. In this paper image patch is representing as sparse code. We are selecting the sparse code from the complete dictionary which is linear group of few atoms. By the addition of sparse coding noise to image we can enhance the performance of sparse representation. Here by restoring the image reducing the sparse coding noise in this paper we are adopting the method of adding the sparse coding noise. For getting of high resolution output the sparse coding noise should be least amount with high PSNR.

Design Consideration of Multiple Operational Sprayer Cum Trolley | IJSTE JOURNAL VOL 2, ISS 9

Design Consideration of Multiple Operational Sprayer Cum Trolley

Sprayers are mechanical devices that are specifically designed to spray liquids quickly and easily. They come in a number of different varieties. In this project will take a look at multi operated mechanical boom sprayers. A sprayer of this type is a great way to cover large areas such as lawns, orange farms quickly and easily. Also attached grass cutter, plant cutter and harvesting equipments and therefore with the help of these attachment, it is a multi-operational device. The device is pushed manually from behind and as the supply to the pump is switched on, the liquid is sprayed. This paper attempts to discuss the generalized design consideration for multiple operational sprayers cum trolley.

SIMULATION OF SPWM CONTROLLED CONVERTER | IJSTE JOURNAL VOL 2, ISS 10

SIMULATION OF SPWM CONTROLLED CONVERTER

Voltage source converter based power systems have the ability to rapidly control the transmitted active power and also to independently exchange reactive power with transmission system. Thus, VSC with suitable control scheme can offer an alternative means to enhance transient stability, to improve power oscillation damping, and to provide voltage support. The proposed voltage sourced converter (VSC) with pulse width modulation (PWM) provides a faster control that is required in power system. VSCs are one of the most used power converters in distributed generator application as such it can operate either as inverter or as rectifier. The study of VSC and related principles as well as PWM method for controlling the power switches is carried out. MOSFET/IGBT can be invariably used as switches. The simulation of VSC is carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK and PROTEUS. The results of which shows improvement in performance of transmission lines.

Economic Construction of Bituminous Road by Utilization of Waste Tyre Rubber – CRMB | IJSTE JOURNAL VOL 1, ISS 12

Economic Construction of Bituminous Road by Utilization of Waste Tyre Rubber – CRMB

The objective of this research is to find a good mix proportion for the rubberized bitumen. Flexible pavements with bituminous surfacing are widely used in India. The high traffic intensity in terms of commercial vehicles, over loading of trucks and significant variations in daily and seasonal temperature of the pavement have been responsible for earlier development of distress symptoms. Investigations in India and abroad have revealed that the properties of bitumen and bituminous mixes can be improved to meet the basic requirements. Use of Crumb Rubber i.e. the rubber obtained from the waste tires of vehicles, is used in the construction of flexible pavement. In the present study, an attempt has been made to use crumb rubber modified bitumen which is blended at specified temperatures. Marshall’s mix design was carried out by changing the modified bitumen content at constant optimum rubber content and subsequent tests have been performed to determine the different mix design characteristics and for conventional bitumen (VG-30) also. This has resulted in much improved characteristics when compared with straight run bitumen, due to improved strength of Modified Bitumen it is one of the upcoming important construction materials for flexible pavements. This study will have a positive impact on the environment as it will reduce the volume of rubber waste to be disposed of by burning and land filling. It will not only add value to rubber waste but will develop a technology, which is eco-friendly.

Experimental Analysis of Mechanical Properties in E-Glass Fiber Pipe

Now a day’s composite material products are gently used in fiber industry and automobile applications. Because of it light weight, Low cost and high strength. There are various varieties of synthetic fibers are the properties were identified. But glass fiber is give high strength in low cost. The fibers it will be mixing resin to get good mechanical properties. In this work use E-glass fiber, Resin and hardener to make a composite fiber pipe. We fabricated a standard test specimen in each E-glass fiber (E-glass fiber, Resin + hardener). There addition of additives has to be done to fabricate composite fiber pipe. Finally Hardener is added improve it hardness separately and tested in Micro Hardness Test, Universal Testing Machine, from analysis we found that composite E-glass fiber, Resin + hardener got better Hardness.

Modal testing of Reinforced Concrete Floor using Reaction Mass Shaker (Direct method) | IJSTE JOURNAL VOL 1, ISS 10

Modal testing of Reinforced Concrete Floor using Reaction Mass Shaker (Direct method)

Modern structures are becoming more and more slender but with improved stiffness with use of large number of materials in combination, making the predictions of dynamic characteristics of such structures extremely difficult for the analysis using commercially available general purpose finite element softwares. On the other hand, if a building floor is properly excited and the input force and the resulting responses are accurately measured with proper hardware, the dynamic characteristics can be found out without much error. In direct method of analysis, the input force is generated by the load cells provided. The present work is focused on actual physical measurement of input force of a reaction mass shaker to a typical building floor to determine the floor dynamics. A case study on a double storey Laboratory floor establishes the advantages of this kind of combined experimental and numerical methods.

An Investigation of Hole Size, Circularity and Delamination during Drilling Operation of Carbon Fiber Rein Forced Polymer with using ANOVA | IJSTE JOURNAL VOL 2, ISS 1

An Investigation of Hole Size, Circularity and Delamination during Drilling Operation of Carbon Fiber Rein Forced Polymer with using ANOVA

In aerospace engineering, CFRP is a mostly used material for making different parts of aero planes. The CFRP material is a one of the composite material .Till now no any technique which is used to weld together of cfrp material.so that there is a only one technique is mostly used and that is a drill the hole and use the fasteners to join them. So that the quality of hole is very most important. Thus, the choice of optimized cutting parameters is very important for controlling the required hole quality. In this present work the aim is to optimized the cutting parameters through work piece hole size, circularity and delamination.in this research an experimental investigation of a full factorial design performed on thin CFRP laminated sheet using HSS drill with different point angle 90°,120°,150°and by varying different spindle speed (3500,4500,5500 rpm )and feed rate(200,500,900 mm/min )to determine optimum cutting condition. The hole quality parameters analyzed include hole diameter, circularity and delamination. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was carried out for Hole quality parameters and their contribution rates was determined. Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology by full factorial Design was used in the multiple objective optimizations (using Mini Tab 17, software) to find the optimum cutting conditions for defect free drilling.

Comparison of Sheet Metal Forming Simulation and Try-Out Tools in Design of Tooling | IJSTE JOURNAL VOL 2, ISS 1

Comparison of Sheet Metal Forming Simulation and Try-Out Tools in Design of Tooling

heet metal forming simulation softwares are used to predict formability of various industrial components. Traditionally trials are taken on try-out tools to test the tool designing before hard tools are manufactured. Sheet metal forming simulation can test increased number of tool design than that of try-out tools also we can use them at early stage of design phase. Sheet metal forming simulation is having high level of accuracy in the result to replace the trial phase to great extent. In this paper comparison in results of sheet metal forming simulation and try-out tools during designing of tooling is done. ANSYS simulation software is used to test the design of tooling.

Performance Characteristics of Ethanol Drived From Food Waste as a Fuel in Diesel Engine | Ijste journal Vol. 2 Issue. 5

Performance Characteristics of Ethanol Drived From Food Waste as a Fuel in Diesel Engine

Significant quantities of food are being wasted by people in day to day life which cause real environmental problems. These food wastes can be used as a potential feedstock for ethanol production and this could also be an alternate for disposal of the polluting residues, which is the primary aim of the project. Secondly, diesel fuel and ethanol were blended for this investigation and injection was done through continuous manifold injection. It reduces exhaust emissions and shows better lube oil quality as compared together tested fuels. This is mainly due to the effect of fuel additive in the blended fuel. The specific objective of this investigation is to develop the performance of fuel by using as in-house-formulated fuel additive. Rice ranks first among the most significant food followed by corn, banana and Mango and milk. It is a stable food among south India. The rice is more prone to wastage at place like marriage halls, hostels, restaurants. To determine the performance, combustion and emission analysis are performed on the single cylinder diesel engine, diesel, ethanol 10, ethanol 20 and ethanol 30.
Hence the performance analysis are performed on the single cylinder diesel engine with diesel, ethanol 10, ethanol 20 and ethanol 30. From the performance curve it was found that Total Fuel Consumption and Specific Fuel Consumption are related to each other and increase with increased in the ethanol percentage in the biodiesel. Ethanol 30 will be showing the highest ranges in all the three cases of ethanol ranges in comparison with diesel. Where the efficiency parameters such as Mechanical efficiency and Brake Thermal Efficiency is decreased with increased in ethanol percentage in biodiesel. The efficiency parameter will be good for ethanol 10. So it can be inferred that an intermediate range of ethanol will be good for the proper performance in a diesel engine.
